Frequently Asked Questions
What kinds of storage companies are listed?
Five groups: enterprise storage array and platform vendors (Dell, NetApp, Everpure, HPE, IBM), AI and high-performance data platforms (VAST Data, WEKA, DDN, Hammerspace), object, file and software-defined storage (MinIO, Cloudian, Scality, Ceph), drive, flash and memory makers (Seagate, Western Digital, Micron, Solidigm), and standards bodies.
Why is storage important for AI data centers?
AI training and inference need to read large datasets and checkpoints quickly enough to keep GPUs busy. Several vendors here, including VAST Data, WEKA, DDN and Hammerspace, position their platforms specifically for AI and HPC, and drive makers such as Solidigm and Micron market SSDs for AI workloads.
Did Pure Storage change its name?
Yes. Pure Storage changed its legal name to Everpure, Inc., effective 23 February 2026, according to its SEC filing, and its website has moved to everpuredata.com. Its stock ticker stayed PSTG. Its old purestorage.com address still redirects, and customers may see both names for a while.
What is the difference between block, file and object storage?
Block storage presents raw volumes to servers and databases, file storage shares files over a network, and object storage stores data as objects accessed over an API, usually S3-compatible. Many products on this page offer more than one.
What happened to Sandisk and Western Digital?
Western Digital separated its flash business as Sandisk in 2025. Both companies are listed separately, with Western Digital focused on hard drives.
Does this page cover power, cooling, networking and colocation?
No. See Top Data Center Power Companies, Data Center Storage Companies, Data Center Networking Companies and Colocation Service Providers on this site. For product categories, see Enterprise Storage Solutions and AI Storage Solutions.
How current is this page?
Links were checked on 4 November 2026. Dell, NetApp, Huawei, DDN, SNIA and the Open Compute Project returned 403, Seagate returned 429 and the HPE home page did not respond, so those links may need a manual click. Descriptions follow each company's own pages and are not independent rankings or benchmarks.
