Frequently Asked Questions

Why is serverless monitoring different?

Functions are short-lived, scale rapidly and run on infrastructure you cannot access, so you rely on traces, structured logs and metrics emitted by the code and the platform instead of host agents.

What should I monitor?

Invocation counts, errors, duration, cold starts, throttling, concurrency and cost, plus traces that follow a request across functions and services.

Does OpenTelemetry work with serverless?

Yes. OpenTelemetry provides instrumentation and Lambda layers for functions, and many platforms accept its data, which helps avoid lock-in.

Which tools were left out?

Epsagon and Thundra, serverless monitoring startups often listed elsewhere, did not load when their websites were checked, so they are not listed.

Are the links checked?

Links were checked when this page was updated. Dashbird blocked automated checks but is kept from the earlier version of this page, so open it yourself if it fails.
