Frequently Asked Questions

What is FaaS on Kubernetes?

It is running function-as-a-service on your own Kubernetes clusters, using platforms that handle packaging, routing, scaling and event triggers for small functions.

Why not just use a cloud provider's functions?

Kubernetes-based FaaS avoids lock-in, runs on-premises or at the edge, and reuses existing cluster operations. The trade-off is that you run the platform yourself.

How does scale to zero work?

The platform stops all instances of a function when idle and starts one when a request or event arrives. Knative and KEDA provide this on Kubernetes.

Which projects are inactive?

Kubeless is archived and moved to the vmware-archive organisation. It is kept for reference but is not recommended for new projects.
