Analyst View: GigaOm Radar for CMPs (2025)

1 entries

GigaOm's fourth Radar for cloud management platforms evaluated 15 vendors. It names four Leaders (CloudBolt, CoreStack, HPE Morpheus and UnityOne.AI) and rates the rest, including BMC Helix, Centilytics, CloudSphere, emma, IBM, Kion, Nutanix, OpenText, Red Hat, ServiceNow and Virtana, as Challengers. CoreStack, IBM and UnityOne.AI are marked Outperformers. The report sees CMPs converging with cloud resource optimization and FinOps, more suites built through acquisitions, growing focus on software asset management, security policy as code and GPU optimization, and AI moving tools from reactive to proactive. It notes the Radar is technology-focused and ignores market share. These are the analyst's views, not the site's ranking.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a multicloud management platform?

It is software that gives one place to provision, govern, monitor and optimize resources across several public clouds, private clouds and virtualization platforms. Typical features are self-service catalogs, policy and compliance, automation, cost control and unified inventory, which is why it is also called a cloud management platform (CMP).

What is the difference between multicloud and hybrid cloud management?

Multicloud management covers two or more public clouds. Hybrid cloud management also includes on-premises or private infrastructure. Most platforms on this list, such as CloudBolt, Morpheus, Snow Commander and Scalr, handle both.

Do I need a CMP if I use Terraform or Kubernetes?

Infrastructure-as-code and Kubernetes cover provisioning and application deployment. A CMP adds self-service for teams, governance and approvals, chargeback, inventory and policy across everything, and often wraps Terraform and Ansible rather than replacing them.

Where do FinOps tools fit in?

FinOps tools such as CloudHealth, Cloudability and CloudCheckr focus on cost visibility, allocation, optimization and accountability. Many CMPs include cost features, but dedicated FinOps platforms go deeper on reporting, budgets and rightsizing.

What happened to Google Anthos and IBM multicloud management?

Google folded Anthos into Google Distributed Cloud and GKE Enterprise, so this page lists Google Distributed Cloud. IBM's older multicloud management product is no longer offered as a single product, so IBM Cloud Satellite is listed for its distributed cloud approach.

What does the GigaOm Radar say about cloud management platforms?

GigaOm's 2025 Radar for cloud management platforms evaluated 15 vendors and named CloudBolt, CoreStack, HPE Morpheus and UnityOne.AI as Leaders. It reports that CMP, cloud resource optimization and FinOps are overlapping, and that AI is moving these tools from reactive to proactive. Its positions come from its own scoring, so check the report and your own requirements.

What does IBM's ownership of HashiCorp change?

IBM completed its acquisition of HashiCorp on 27 February 2025, bringing Terraform, Vault, Consul, Nomad, Vagrant and Packer under IBM, and said it plans to keep investing in HashiCorp. Terraform has been under the Business Source License since 10 August 2023, so check current licence terms.

Which open-source cloud platforms have released recently?

According to their release pages in October 2026: Terraform v1.17.1 (28 October), OpenStack 2026.2 Hibiscus (30 September) and Apache CloudStack 4.23.0.0 (2 September). Cloudify's latest GitHub release listed is 6.0.0 from May 2021, so check its repository before relying on it. The Open Source Cloud Management Tools page covers OpenTofu, Ansible and Crossplane in more detail.

What does a multicloud management platform do?

It provides one place to provision, govern, monitor and optimise resources across several clouds, covering self-service, policy, cost visibility and automation.

How do I avoid lock-in across clouds?

Use portable layers such as Kubernetes, Terraform or OpenTofu, Crossplane and open standards like TOSCA, and track cost with FinOps practices and OpenCost.

How current is this page?

Links were checked in October 2026. Some vendor sites, such as Kion, Cisco, OpenText, ServiceNow, CloudSphere and HPE, return errors to automated link checks and may need a manual click. The analyst view summarizes the GigaOm Radar for CMPs V4 (September 2025), the latest edition found, and vendor descriptions follow each vendor's own pages.
