Frequently asked questions
Quick answers.
What is intelligent asset management?
Intelligent asset management software uses AI, machine learning, IoT data and automation to monitor and optimise physical assets, predicting performance, reliability and safety so maintenance can be planned instead of reactive.
How is it different from digital asset management?
Digital asset management (DAM) stores and distributes digital files such as images and video. Intelligent asset management looks after physical assets such as machines, vehicles and infrastructure. The names are similar but the products are different.
How does it relate to EAM, CMMS and APM?
Enterprise asset management (EAM) covers the whole asset lifecycle, CMMS focuses on maintenance work orders, and asset performance management (APM) adds condition monitoring and predictive analytics. Intelligent asset management combines them with AI and IoT data.
What data do these tools use?
They combine sensor and IoT readings, inspection records, maintenance history and business data from systems such as ERP, and use analytics to predict failures and prioritise work.
What should I check when choosing?
Check integration with your ERP and sensors, support for your asset types, predictive capabilities, mobile use for field teams, deployment options and total cost over the asset lifecycle.
Where does this list come from?
The products come from the Intelligent Asset Management (IAM) Software market page on Gartner Peer Insights, checked on 6 October 2026. We kept the ten that are physical asset management products and linked each to its own site.
